The coffeehouse aims to be a barista led destination café offering quality hot drinks and food serving the creative quarter of Birmingham from the rhubarb building. It will also serve as informal networking venue based around the coffee house heritage of the UK (1700’s pre Bank of England London) aimed squarely at the creative industry, not only as a social hub for the businesses and staffers of the rhubarb building but embracing the wider business community of Digbeth.

Crisis London recently held their fifth regional meeting in Qwerk Meetingspace at Rhubarb. Rhubarbs Keri say’s the day was a great success and quotes David Hewitt of Crisis London:“We always ask our delegates to rate the venue and 24 out of 25 questionnaires returned an excellent comment for the Qwerk venue and hospitality and loved the Rhubarb building.” Therefore beating both the London and Manchester venues !

Studios at Rhubarb qualify for 100% rates relief until October 2011, a saving of £2,000 for the year. But that’s not all; when October 2011 arrives you can still get up to 50% relief, bringing the cost for a 400 sq.ft studio down to a very reasonable £73 per month! So now a Rhubarb studio is even sweeter.

Our newest tenant, AHP is an all-female design and marketing agency who have chosen Rhubarb as their new home.

Made up of managing director Sian Lenegan, who is originally from Zimbabwe and has amassed a wealth of experience in brand development, creative director Amanda Haywood-Poole, a graphic designer, account manager Amanda Yaceyko, a former teacher from Canada with a degree in both Fine Arts and Education and web developer Petra Kravos, the newest addition to the AHP family. The team was recently shortlisted for the Chamber Group Business Awards in the ‘Best Creative, Media and Arts Business 2010’ category.

Greenwall Looking good

After a long hard winter and a spring trim, the greenwall is beginning to bloom again, with several species now in flower and the prospect of it looking as fantastic as last year. There’s one small area that didn’t quite survive the winter and this is due to be replanted shortly.

Rhubarb links up with Paperchasers

Rhubarb has joined Paperchasers, the ethical recycling scheme. Paperchasers specialise in commercial recycling and in particular paper products, which are recycled locally here in Digbeth at the Smurfit Kappa Paper Mill. We’ll be getting a report twice a year (digital of course!) telling us how our efforts translate into carbon, landfill space, water, energy and trees saved. We’ve started with paper recycling and plan to “go large” shortly by adding cardboard, mixed plastics, glass, aluminium and office products such as ink & toner cartridges. Our aim is to become a benchmark development for office recycling and judging by the response from our ever expanding Rhubarb family. For more info about their service, visit www.paperchasers.biz
